Eric Diller: Black Bellied Whistling Duck

Eric,

For sure this is my favorite as the bird has such splashy red curves that makes it so unusual. I'v seen how they move their necks in flight; so sensuous! Just where are you finding these birds soaring around so you can snap them?

Asher...I was at the Viera Wetlands standing in one spot. I figured I would let the birds come to me instead of me looking for them!

Great images Eric,

The Osprey would be my pick, although I'm a sucker for bird of prey images with wings splayed wide.

Is the Caracara a type of Eagle or Hawk? It's bill area seems considerably more 'robust' than the Ospreys. What is it's normal food?

Caracara's are listed under Hawks. I have seen them eat everything and anything!! The seem to steal food from other birds a lot. I have seen them eating coots, snakes, small turtles (seems to be the favorite at the wetlands), large grasshoppers, fish .....I could go on! I think they behave like a Vultures when it comes to food, ........what every is available
