Summer Palace, Beijing

Here's another shot I just finished from my trip to Beijing last month. This was taken at the Summer Palace just outside the city about 45 minutes metro ride from the center. It is really an amazing place to photograph as there is just so much to see and everything is incredibly beautiful. There were just too many good photos that day to post them all on Flickr. There was a man writing on the ground with Water and with the sun coming in and reflecting the way it did it made for a great shot. this one is special to me because of the feet. It adds a bit of detention as well as a bit more to the story. Let me know what you think.

Casey,

This is a remarkable picture. I wonder what's written? This is the place for having an iphone app for translating, LOL! Surely it must be more than water as the lines are so straight. Maybe it says, "Writing cannot be done with plain water. It needs ideas and ink!"

I am very interested to find out what is says as well. I'll get on that Iphone app ; ) It looked to be just water but I didn't really look into the bucket. He had been doing this for some time and as i followed the trail it was starting to dry up and vanish just as water would. Who know, thanks for taking a look. cheers.

Is there anyone out there with art training who can explain why this image works? According to the rules it shouldn't. The eye is led down from the light leading in to the feet and the image should end there, the eye should not be drawn further. The eye is not drawn to shadow. However in this image my eye is drawn upwards eventhough I don't truly know why. Perhaps the diagonal.

In any case, it works, well, not sure why but perhaps that's the mystery which indeed brings one to muse when viewing it.

I have no art training, so my thoughts may count for little, but my eye is drawn more to the contrast between the dark foreground lettering and pavement than it is to lighter, but less contrasted lettering, at the top of the image. From here it trends up the diagonal as you might expect.

Casey - lovely image. A good spot!
