Hi guys,

Just finished working on this shot from a recent shoot. Any comments would be more than welcome.

Matt,

I have a had a look around your site, your work is strong and simple - one of the stated aims is to make photographs more like paintings (or like painting) I take this to mean the formal portraits from the likes of Holbain et al and not more modern work like Auerbach - although there is a touch of Freuds in this image.

freud - john minton

I like the processing - make it harsher - Push it further. One formal aspect is where the sitter is looking - if this image were flipped he would be staring us down and the light would almost mirror the above image – doubtless you already have thought of this but worth a mention I guess.

cheers

Hi Mark,

Many thanks for the comments. I really like the painting you linked to, it really is good! With respect to my own style, I prefer not to be too heavy handed with the post processing. I could if I wanted push it further, but for my tastes this is something I try to avoid, as then you lose the 'photo realism'.

My aim is to blur the lines between photography and painted art.

Best,
