It was a little unfortunate for me the other day when I came across a small collection of wonderful historic cars at the Blyth Steam and Thesher Show. Each one had a huge piece of white paper with the details about the car - obscuring the windshields. Yellow tape was on the grass underneath, and almost all of the grills and chrome details were interupted by license plates that I did not want to include. I simply could not find interesting angles or even useful detail shots for the most parts - - - so only spent a few minutes grabbing 15 or 20 images including these:

Hi Robert,

I can sympathise with you. License plates are OK, part of the vehicle's history, but notices on the windscreen are really frustrating.
Having said that, I like the shots you managed to take.

Unfortunately, all had to be retouched to make usable. Even the shots that only show a bit of the wipers - so that the paper in the windshield didn't show - - - had reflections of the paper in the shiny paint of the hoods. Here are the 3 straight from the camera:

I'd not worry one iota about what you couldn't get! After all, you might wish to photograph dragon flies, but they fly too fast or nudes but the folk are dressed! what counts is what you come away with. On that basis your work is magnificent! You did what one is supposed to do, chose what to keep and what to lose!

These are simply magnificent. One does not need more to show the essence of the cars. Just what you caught is, in each case, easily portraiture of the car's character. so, pat yourself on the back! As for reflections of labels on the windshields, yes it's a pity, but the real world! Even perfect flowers have the odd dead insect or part of a spider's web or a fleck of black from who knows where. That's real. All the rest is for Dreamworks.

I agree with the others that you did a wonderful job with these photos. I love how rich the colors are.

A small suggestion perhaps? ... on the gorgeous red one, personally I would have the sticker on the right photoshopped out since I doubt it would have the same sticker on the left and right especially since the right one is flipped.

Asher - I don't worry at all - and have no insecurities when it comes to my photography. I got what I wanted from this scene and was able to produce a few images that I can make use of.
