I like the first two the best because the backgrounds show context. The one with the man playing drum has some context but I'm not familiar with the symbol.

The one with the accordion is really interesting to me because I've never seen an accordion with the cover off!

The light in the last one is great. I love the way light dances in a city.

I do like the third, I would love to have have caught an additional and more up close portrait of his face with all those gritty keys below his chin. It's so easy to think about now with hindsight but well worth remembering in the future if ever there's another chance...:)

These guys are hard to photograph most times...

Are you using a full-frame camera, James? You are getting such a great amount of shallow DOF, nice one...

Thank you Bob for your interesting observations. The symbol is a maple leaf at an entrance to a coin, gold and silver exchange it is Canada's national symbol.

For sure Paul and Thank you! Yes I am shooting a full frame and I just moved into a 50mm lens last month after spending the last couple of years with a 35mm.

Thanks James. I know the maple leaf's association with Canada -- I just didn't know this particular symbol. Knowing that it's a gold exchange gives the photo another layer of meaning.

James, in regard to the image with the 'gold exchange' sign in the background I think this one is your strongest photo out of the whole lot. For me, it's because of the analogy between between the 'gold exchange' symbol and the guy's CND pendant. I like that a lot...

Thank you gentlemen! I did try to connect the symbol with the piece sign around his neck but I was motivated by the lighting at night and him looking up. Makes me want to visit a Jazz Club.

This is one of the best uses of a 50mm lens, (the second being taking pictures a round table for 10 at a bar mitzvah or wedding, LOL)!

The isolation allows so much attention to be given to the musicians.

My fav. is the man with the accordion singing. I can hear him! I hope the locations are near you. Is it one street with lots of tourists and famous for these denizens?

Thank you for letting me know that Asher,he has a very unique sound. I have made a number of images on and around Granville Street, Vancouver B C. and yes, lots of tourists. At the foot of the street is a convention center and port with many cruise ships that come in from around the world. I wouldn't say that the street is famous for buskers but many places for fashion conscious shoppers and some historic theaters and lots of places to eat and make happiness.
