James,

Tell me you didn't use some sort of grunge filter? I'd love to know what you did and why?

Asher

I am not sure what a grunge filter is? I made this image almost two years ago;, one of my first street shots - and never did anything with it until now. I processed a color version in Silver Efex and used a modern preset (full dynamic range). Then I applied a Tri X 400 film simulation, used some light fall-off and burned the edges. I wanted to give as much attention to the man's facial features as possible.

thanks Jim for the background to this picture. I'd think it's also worth considering looking at a less severe version as this presentation might go beyond what's needed to express what you have in mind.

Might you look at your layers in photoshop and after you have done it, leave it for several hours or to the next day. Now see if you can reduce the total new picture, ("select all" and paste, shut of all layers except the combination and the original), to use the minimum % of the top layer, until you get the feeling you need and no more. I'd wager that you might then end up with a less severe image, but one you could even prefer!

Hi James, I like this one. He seems like one serious character and the grunge works well. If only there was a bit more light in his eyes... (which, of course, can be difficult to arrange in a candid street shot).

Hello Jarmo

Thank you for your feedback. I will give his eyes a bit of a lift.
