I look at this image of a Chinese paper seller as a 'documentary' type one and I can see it working better in a larger body of work detailing life in this area. The area looks like a 'chinatown' of sorts...

Thank you Paul ! The image was made in china town located in Vancouver BC Canada it is considered the second oldest and largest, china town in North America and San Fransisco being the first. I will introduce some more images.

Yeah, this image would work well in contrast to other shots of the hustle and bustle of Chinatown and it's occupants, in turn bolstered too...
Anyway, from what you say James, it will be a very worthy project.

The soft focus'ed b.g. allows us to be drawn to this elegantly posed gentleman. I wonder what lens you used for this? There's still enough information of the vicinity to see the mood of a "Chinatown"!

I wonder whether this is his "retirement job"? Somehow I feel he might have had an entirely different professional life and this is his enjoyable way of interacting with so many more people.

Thank you for your comments Asher. It is hard to say about the gentleman's profession or the nature of this tradition - he had just taken over this seat from an very elderly woman when I arrived but I did not have the time to compose anything. The image makes me wonder about how long in the future this type of thing will exist in the future. I feel that composition is the first and foremost important part of photography, not the gear.. but a 50mm works good for me. I would like to add to this set but I am wondering how to change the title from Untitled to Chinatown?
