Show me what you saw, what you felt. I had told her.

Don't worry about DR, clipped highlights and shadows.

Show me that you had fun.

Here is some of that record. Sony RX 100 MK III/ iPhone 6+

All images are hers as is the editing.

Where, how and when one points one's cam, is the most important decision the photog should concentrate on.
As is when one clicks. I had told her.

That is all there is to it....

Show me what you see.
A corridor?

Make me feel the corridor. What will I see as I walk along it?

I am not with you.

Lead me in. Let's walk together.

It is all about where, and how you point your cam. An iPhone is as good as any other.

I don't have the time to go through all the images.

Tell me why you went there, what moved you, what it was all about?

One image...

Thank you.

I need to just stop what I'm doing and cherish the child, her beauty and how she might grow up well, healthy and with a quest for experiencing everything like the photographer herself. This is the alpha and omega, a tale of two valuable people. I cannot as yet go beyond these stories.

Of course the picture happens to be sharp, well exposed and framed. But the face is the magnet here and so much is there - trust, joy, security and an ability to question things well beyond her childhood size - matters taken fro granted.

How I wish I could spray this essence from the air with drones and give people peace and comfort and appreciation for the miracle of each person alive.

Thanks for sharing.

May I say she's "Adorable" and with her, your wife might have knocked you into second place!

Asher, thanks from her ( and him).

As to being second..LOL, I am content with my place in the grand scheme of things.

Folks, just to clarify, there is more...much much more to a good image then just point and shoot. I have barely begun to learn what makes a good image. So take what I say with a big big grain of salt ( grains ! ) of salt.

Most of you here are masters at making images. I envy your talents, your skills and your experience.

My rants are just to encourage people to start enjoying photography, and to start believing that the brand of camera, or technical literature, should not be a stumbling block as you start on this wonderful journey.

You will know, when you need some equipment that enables you to grow further. Follow your passion, build on your strengths and try to work on your weaknesses. But above all, do not take the pundits too seriously....just create images that you want and enjoy. And keep at it.
( end of a useless rant ).

Now while she was chasing the lights, or galloping across SE Asia, I was chasing some other dreams...

Very enjoyable, Fahim, to follow her journey as well as yours. A great reminder to everyone that a great camera may give you more resolution, less noise etc, but it cannot give you more heart and soul. That is present in these photos regardless of camera brand and price.

Well done!

Thanks Maggie.

My wife, then decided to go to Iceland!! Not for me, the cold.

I went looking for Karakatoa, East of Java. It's sibling is bellowing lava and smoke.
But the weather was atrocious, and nobody was prepared to take me across the sea.

So, plan B. I went to Central Java. Full of volcanos. Merapi had the latest eruption in 2010. Village was buried. Once again, the weather was not conducive to any climb. Roads were blocked. Mud slides etc.

However, made the best of what I could.

I had my Df and the XT1 with me.

People here live in the shadow of volcanos. Places, the sulphuric fumes made it difficult for me to approach.

Hi Fahim,

Impressive vistas, especially for someone from a country (partially below sea-level) as flat as were I live.
Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Hi Bart.

Hope you and yours are well.
Yes, your country is flat terrain. But I could trek further there than here :)

As one approaches the volcanos, one literally starts walking in the clouds. And this is just the base.

Even a small volcano, dwarfs the towns and villages around it.

p365172941.jpg

The workers collect rocks from this one. I could not approach much closer due to the intense sulphur fumes and lakes as one climbs toward the summit.

Empty shops, ominous weather...living under the volcanic umbrella, the people have developed an
instinct for moving on to safer ground at the slightest sense of rumblings of the massive peaks that surround them.

Even the animals are nowhere to be found...

p764572516-6.jpg

Just a few moments to take a few snaps, and I too move away to a safer sanctuary.

An entire village lies buried under the volcanic ash under my feet.

A few days after I left the area, I heard about the tragic loss of Air Asia, with all people on board,
due to horrendous weather conditions.

Go to Hawaii, she suggested.
If you want to see volcanos, she said, go to Hawaii.

Excellent infrastructure, arranged tours with proper safeguards, super facilities, and medical care.
Wonderful scenery and beaches. Flights east and west, at your convenience.

Two reasons, I had replied.

- long..very long and tiring flights

And more importantly...

p768343824.jpg

And on which island would I experience this..

Stark differences but both with aspects of communication - one real and live and the following a hoped for conversation and greeting with God!

I haven't identified the Island, but would love to visit! I'd guess it's Buddhist and somewhere and at least relatively stable and peaceful like Java in Indonesia. I know very little of Buddhism except what gets in the news and my limited readings of the Buddha and following the Tibet tragedies and the news and words of the Dalai Lama.

It can't be in Afghanistan, as it would have been blown up by now!

Asher, the site is the Borobudur temple complex in central Java.

Most people know of Angor Wat..this arguably overshadows it. One has to visit it, and stand in silence as one gazes all around. Spend some time in the quiet here and only then, the site, its location and the undeniable importance of this place to those of the Buddhist faith sinks in.

To others, it is the construction site, the stupas, the mountains and volcanos that surround it and the
grandeur of it all..therein lies its beauty.

Travelers like me, can just stare quietly in wonder..

p769804185-6.jpg

Few more views, before the rains came down with vengeance ( there is nowhere to shelter here!!)

and one the few moments where a shot was lost due to the lag inherent in the mirrorless systems of date..

p721723732.jpg

My shots are made at the moment. A fleeting moment, detected from the corner of the eye. Turn, acquire focus, shoot, ready instantly for another one. Such opportunities do not come often for me.
When I loose them, it takes a long time for me to get over it.

My dslr would not have missed a beat.

Well, Fahim, I guessed somewhere there but now I know it's indeed the Borobudure Temple site indeed. I only new rumors of the place.

Glad you can bring us these first hand views!

Well, Fahim, my Bronica and 8x10 cameras would all have worse handicaps too. But seriously, the small cameras achieve so much more as they're not a burden in mass, bulk and don't immediately distract the locals!

The small mirrorless cameras are much more efficient as travel-anywhere pocketable cameras and the lenses are smaller to boot!
