Wonderful capture, as usual, Fahim. It is interesting to see that the Mao hats from the cultural revolution are still in fashion with these elderly women.

No guide here. The Chinese are a very accepting, and extremely courteous people...that's what I experienced during my short visit there. Very helpful.

I was more of a enigma to them than them to me.

Small Naxi village. I was just strolling along, stopping here and there. Sat for sometime in a basic
Coffee shop. Saw this group of ladies, walked over...heads turned..I wished a good morn ' née houy '
They laughed..a typical shy smile really. I indicated with my camera...they did not indicate negative feelings, and I snapped.

They continued talking amongst themselves, I thanked them with a bow of my head and walked along.

Cem, China is Mao...even to this day. Capitalism is the economic model. But make no mistake, Mao is
Revered here.


When you don't have fluency in Cantonese on your side, how do you get going here- a smile, a gesture towards your camera at the same time or some words to them by your guide?
