5 years ago: the 2010 edition of the Sail-In Parade in Amsterdam

Following up on the photos of the Sail Amsterdam 2015, here are the photos of Sail Amsterdam 2010, the Sail-In Parade. I am only 5 years and a bit late so don't shoot me please, lol. The Sail Amsterdam is a 5-yearly event which brings more than 80 tall ships, naval ships and replicas from all around the world to Amsterdam for 4 days. This is a huge public event with more than 1.5 million visitors in total. At the start of the event, the participating ships all sail into the Amsterdam harbour. They are greeted and accompanied by thousands of local boats/ships, small and large.

PS: the main lens was a very old Nikon mount Sigma 75-300mm, used on my Canon 5dII with an adapter. That's why the pictures aren't tack sharp, especially at the sides and in the corners.

I wrote extensively in response to this wonderful series. Are there two such threads on the regatta?

Frankly, I missed this, possibly conflating it with the other, on first glance, thread in the same vain. Sorry, but with a constant pressure of wake up times, luggage and flights, I have been somewhat distracted!

Now I will re read it carefully so as to take it all in and there's enough for a fair sized table book!

Hi, Cem,

Sorry I didn't get to comment timely on this wonderful series. Guess I was preoccupied by various things happening here.

It looks like a wondrous event, and you made the best of it!

All that having been said, I am going to lunch now!

Best regards,

Doug

I check the two series. For 2015, you told us that you were able to secure a prime viewing location on the top of a friend's building. It seems that you used the exact same location in 2010, didn't you?

Great work Cem !
So, every 5 years the event is realized as big as this. And the weather was fine back then...
This year you knew where to go to get nice photos ! ;)

NOTE - When I open OPF I usually click on the "Recent Posts". However, even coming here almost everyday I missed this thread.
Thank you for the link in Photos and explanations.

It's nice that you are able to have such a complete record of all of these festivities from both years. It's a crazy busy harbour or river - by the looks of it.

Thanks Rob. The harbour is a combination of a river estuary, a sea inlet and a canal. It was busy because of the sail-in parade. Normally, it is busy as well but not like this.
