It early started as a wonderful sunny autumn day, cold but very beautiful ...

All shot full open unless mentioned (f.2.8 )

Not sure why this Triplet lens (a very well made one tho) is so unknown...

Certainly deserves more attention like the Meyer Trioplan.

Interesting!

I still have the Steinheil Cassarit f2.8 45mm on my Paxette II, maybe I should adapt it to µ4/3...

Best regards,
Michael

Extraordinary bokeh again. Most impressive.

Thanks Murray!

Thanks Michael, and yes maybe you should convert it, but this is about images here, not technical discussions (from what I have understood).

I agree. Very nice... :)

Thanks Antonio, means much to me!

Thnaks Antonia, means much to me!

A suggestion does not make a technical discussion unless someone turns it into one by responding to it ;)

Best regards,
Michael

These are wonderful images and very sharp at wide open. I have an opportunity to buy the Steinheil Cassarit 50mm F2.8 in M42 mount zebra design. Is the lens used the same model?

Tony,

I think it’s likely that Klaus had it mounted to a MFT digital body!

These are readily available and if you like the look, get it as it’s not at all expensive!

Asher,

I have a Sony A7ii to use it on. I haven't come across these lenses previously here in Australia. It appears to be a triplet design which is good for swirly and bubbly bokeh. Hopefully it is as sharp as the one owned by Klaus.

Tony,

I really pray you get this lens. It will give you a lot of joy!

You can still get them on eBay. It will be plenty sharp. Besides, today’s processing software can help with focus.

BTW, are you in one of the relatively isolated cities tgat have controlled Covid?

Thanks Asher.

I am going to pick the lens up this evening. It is on a Praktica lVB camera and I hope the glass is clean. This model seems fairly rare even on eBay but I have not searched for it before.

We have been luck here in Perth as there have been no restrictions here for some time. However, about a week ago a hotel quarantine worker tested positive to COVID and we have been in lockdown. That will end at 6pm tonight but there will be some further restrictions until there is certainly of no further community transmission.

Fabulous!

You can start with film!

I love it!

I have now tried the lens and a few shots are attached. I had to clean the lens elements but it still has some internal haze. Unfortunately I am not able to emulate the quality of the shots posted by Dr Klaus Schnitt and would like to know whether his lens is the same model.

Tom,

So you used a Sony, Model ILCE-7M2. A pity you didn’t tell us the aperture!

104EFADC-25C4-4556-9983-53A45DEECF1F.jpeg

It does have some out of focus b.g.and not knowing of other work, I would be quite happy as a starting point for post processing.

But it does seem to lack the dynamic almost live beauty of Dr. Klaus Schmitt’s work with pretty globular sparkling bokeh!

Did you shoot it wide open? That is, of course necessary to get the full effect you desire!

Note that Dr. Schmitt’s lens doesn’t always deliver those sparking circles.

443D7D75-A4D8-4525-997F-B1AAF098726A.jpeg

There has to be the right texture at the fitting distance to elicit those magical bokeh effects!

In the picture below, there’s plane of leaves that give rise to the effects we see.

AB4D3F14-0046-4BD9-B971-D6DBADB36A91.jpeg

The other component must be a sore cand particular direction of light!

Hopefully, When Dr. Schmitt looks at this, we will all know a lot more!

Meanwhile, Tom, I suggest you retake the pictures with as close as possible distance to the flowers with a background further sway, say a green plant with rain drops, (water spray) and the background array lit with narrow specular light.

This, I believe could deliver exactly what we are hoping for!

The shot was taken wide open for the effect on Sony A7ii. I have not modified the Exif data. I only edit in Photoscape Pro to do minor adjustments and produce a JPEG file from the original RAW file.

Cheers

Just get closer and put the bg further back then

Hmm, that Cassarit is a much later version than I have. I have an all shiny aluminum version, quite older.

Let me have the serial number as engraved on the from rim and I can tell you more... I guess it is 228xxxx which indicates it being made 1963
