Hello and a question/request

Hi there, First post and a totally selfish one but one i think would be great...

I'm a director living in London and am getting married in a few weeks (3rd May 2008 at 2pm) and am trying to organise a surprise for my fiance.

I'd like to try and get as many photographers to take a picture at that exact time 3/5/08 at 2pm (London time) all around the world, and then gather them all together so we have a nice "look what everybody was doing at the moment we got married thing"...

so i was wondering if anybody on here would like to contribute, I couldn't pay anyone but i'd collect them all together and post them all online for you to see.

If you could also point me in the right direction of what forum to post this in that would be great.

Thanks very much.

Oh and the photos would be of anything you like, just something lovely and marriage inspired i suppose.

many thanks again -

Ed -

At 2 PM

What a fun project. But at 2PM London time it will be 6 AM California time. We will be sleeping. I guess I can set the alarm and take a photo of my husband snoring and my dog sleeping at his feet. The other dog will be barking to go outside. The reality of marriage over 50...

Count me in..

trying to organise a surprise for my fiance...."look what everybody was doing at the moment we got married thing"...

Hi Ed

Firstly welcome to OPF, what a fantastic idea! I'm sure your fiance will be very touched by your thoughtfulness, it would be my pleasure to contribute something, no idea what I'll be doing on the day yet, kind of makes it more fun don't you think, and an absolute pleasure to play a very small part in your wedding day!

I'll make a note in my diary....

Very neat idea Ed (though if you start the marriage so thoughtfully, she'll expect it forever you know....:) )

Anyway on 3/5/08 I'll be out photographing between Arnhem and Neijmegen, so I can offer you a shot or two from 2pm.

Just let us know how you want to receive the images and in what format and size and I'll get my contribution ready for you and send it.

Regards,

Peter

Ed,

You're smart, an international celebration of your marriage!

What time on the schedule will you finally get to "kiss the bride". That time might perhaps be say 2:30?

It makes a huge difference in California! In any case, I'm game!

Asher

I would be happy to participate although at 8:00am Saturday morning I will be starting a shoot in a manufacturing plant here in Houston. I'm not sure how to work something in that is "marriage inspired" but I will certainly try. Actually my lovely wife is stepping in to be my assistant on this job so that there could be my answer. Anyway, it sounds like a great idea and I would like being a part of it. Welcome to the forum.

thank you so much for all your help, i'm no sure on size/format yet, but will let you all know - and also remind you about a week before hand.

There are so many things still to sort out!

(and yes i know it's a high bar to set in the thoughfulness stakes, but hey, it'll be ber turn to do something nice for me next time).

Hi Ed,

This is an idea I have come across earlier but not in the context of a marriage. For example, I have joined a video shooting event around the world on a certain date and time some years ago and it was great fun.

So count me in but on one condition: since we all are selflessly contributing, we should be able to enjoy the results as well. You've promised to publish the pictures on a web site later, but can we make a more concrete agreement/commitment please?

Cheers,

Cem

Hi Georg,

OK, I'll admit that I've laughed at your joke. But copyrights are not entirely irrelavant. Even/especially in a situation like this.

But it is not the copyrights of the submitted pictures I was referring to. I meant to say that I, for one, would like to know for sure that the total set of pictures submittes by all photographers will really be made available to us in the form of a web site, that's all.

Regards,

Cem

I'll certainly make them available for all to see, I'm hoping its a project i'll be very proud of, and i'm not talking about the marriage!

i don't really have the time to draw up a contract though i'm afraid, i have a speech to write!

We can do better. We can host all the pictures and write and article aboput it and have people then ref to these pictures and look for patterns and other interesting facets of what people thought might be relevent and special for the topic of w wedding!

The agreement wiull then be that OPF, or an agreed person or entity acting on uour behalf would deal with any merchandising so if there happened to be any special benefit, all contributors would benefit.

So we would collect hte pictures and then Ed, you would have them available for your album and then after that it would be by consensus of the photographers.

I would like a leeway on the time of the shots. If we could know ¥our itinery, we will then be able to match pictures to the time line:

The arrival of the bride, the marriage vows, the ring, the first kiss, reception, dinner, first dance and finalllt the guests leave and Ed and bride go to bridal suite!

Hmmmm, that's an idea!

That we we do not have to get up before the owls go to sleep!

i am doing a charity shoot

I will be shooting a charity event during your reception. People will be sorting donated books to be given to children who cannot afford them. I will try to do something fun with the shoot as a special thing for you.

Done at exactly 18h57 local time. Now what to do with the file?

I guess if we post here, then Ed can download with our permission to make a collection as he pleases for his wedding surprise.

Here's my contribution (not taken exactly at the time of marriage, but created from 4 separate images and finished approx. at that time):

Congratulations to Ed and his wife, from the Netherlands!
Have a nice honeymoon, have fun, and may your marriage bloom like these tulips do.

I had good intentions but horrible conditions. This is from southern Tunisia, and right on time.

This was a bit earlier and not much better. After thirtyfive years of marriage, I can tell you it is OK to fib a little bit on the time, but only if you change the exif info.

Happenings in the Los Angeles Area

This weekend in Los Angeles is an annual event called Big Sunday. (www.bigsunday.org) which is an area wide volunteer effort to get people to help others and meet the needs of those less fortunate within the Greater Los Angeles Area. Big Sunday will have a national presence tomorrow on the NBC evening news and probably the first of the week throughout various publications. 300 charities and projects will be served by 50,000 volunteers doing "good deeds". This is my second year photographing projects for the group. Today's project was a school district had families donate books to an area in a different district where those could not afford books. We are to select 10 best images. Well, I took 120 today, but these are my favorite. So while you were celebrating your marriage - congratulations - this is what we were doing in Oak Park, California:

These little ones were anxious to help sort books - they would take their stack to the appropriate area for sorted pre-school books

And someone drove up with a car full of books to be brought for sorting:

These boys worked tirelessly:
