Just be very very careful of landslides..small ones. The big ones, you need not worry about! You will not
be around to feel it!

Hi Michael, how goes it with you?

You are of course correct. the cold numbs not only the senses, but the mental faculties too!
These small avalanches occur very frequently, just by ice/snow breaking, stepping on an already weak
spot. The better the guide, the better the chances of survival..no st. bernard'a or medivacs here.

My wife tells me of a couple where the female partner had to be rushed to lower altitudes due to
breathing and altitude problems. 3 Sherpas carried her and almost were running down towards the first lower
camp.

The husband met up with them 2 days later. The wife survived due to the efforts of an American
doctor who has resided here for the past 20 years helping people.

Regards.

Good evening Fahim

real strong beauty, isn' t it?

What do you mean by landslides?
Avalanches? Looks like at the 2nd image.

yep, Fahim

these environements aren't made for everbody ;-)
and of course its better to stay away from avalanches; did you had the avalanche-beepers with you?

At which altitude did you made these photos?

I respect very much these guys, who did it the first time, without todays knowledge and all that high-tech-stuff.

Man, that needed some strong will, cool blood....

Mountains versus humans

LOL

Cem, the biggest danger is getting in panic......

Great mountain views!...Well, these people (shot in Zanskar, Himalaya foot hils in India, border with Tibet, in the summer, at 18-19,000 ft) know about cold and walking in clouds when the weather turns and winter returns. I posted these in landscape, maybe better to post under (travel) portraits.
I hope this shows both the landscape and human resilience.

Rene-Frank,
I love the the young child, wow...the darkness of her eyes, the white of the snow, the texture the of robe and the rocks, and hair, her posture, the shoes...LOVE it! (I'm just assuming it's a girl, it's probably a boy).

Can you share with us how you processed this? Looks like you used the blue filter or channel for her skin.

Marcel, hello, thanks for your kind words...this is actually an old photo of mine taken in '85 on film Agfapan 100 if I remember correctly developed in Rodinal, Camera Nikormat EL if I remember correctly with 50mm lens, f8 1/250 of a sec.
The boy's face/skin was actually quite dark( I assume lot's of UV rays at that altitude which he was exposed to a lot, herding those young Yak calfs, if I remember correctly the only filter I used was a regular UV filter.
As far as processing in PS i used the shadow highlight filter in it to reduce the contrast somewhat to lighten up the shadows a bit and give the snow and clouds a bit more detail. Contrast is extreme at those altitudes, when the sun is out due to the thin air...
