Eagle Landings.....

Went by my favorite Eagle nest this weekend and snapped a few landings. What a beautiful site to watch these Raptors glide in!!
Little Eaglets are both getting bigger (will post in another thread) and are clearly visible when they are not sleeping!.

Eric,

It's exceptional to see how the birds curve in their wings to hold more air and control their descent. Fabulous!

The first in this series is wonderful! The others are quite good in their own right, but the first really stands out!

About settings....do you put it on auto focus? And for that kind of sharpness you must use a tripod? How do you follow the birds so well to get them in such positions?

Rachel.. I shoot them at ISO 400 using a 200-400mm F4 Lens witha 1.4x T.C. I always shoot shutter speeds at 1/250 per sec or higher to freeze those wings.
I do use a tri-pod since my gear is so darn heavy! Tracing them is pretty easy. They are very close and after the last month or so your learn their behavior real quick.
I usually know which way they will come with the food and they always land into the wind, so positioning is easy!
