Hi Fahim,
What kind of bet, you make me curious? ;-) There are many things going on in this picture. Before I mention some of them, let me start by saying that I like the picture very much. The main feeling it evokes in me is the serenity and joy of family/friends having a good time together. I see different age groups and perhaps even different races (is that so?). They seem to be quite at ease with each other. More importantly, they are not paying any attention to the photographer, who is a "fly on the wall" at close quarters here. It might mean that she (your wife) comes over as quite friendly and non-threatening or she knows them already or both.
On the technical side, I think that the tonality and contrast are quite good and the picture is composed well. Of course one could always consider cropping a bit differently but you won't hear me on that or other technical trivia. What's important is that it is a successful picture. Well done![]()
This is picture of a guy, taking his medicine, or maybe a breath mint, LOL, while watching the game.

+1!
This is a formidable example of great documentary photography.
Fahim, my friend, I do believe you have been holding out on us!
All along, you've been quietly and politely accepting praise for images clearly shot by Ayesha!
(just having some fun!)
Ayesha, this is a wonderful capture!
After following your adventures here at OPF, now we can add "photographer" to your list of talents!
It matters little the assistance Fahim may have provided in PS. You are the one who saw the opportunity for a great image, carefully composed it and executed it precisely!
My compliments!
Ayesha,
Long before this picture came to OPF, I've glimpsed at the privilege Fahim has in being able to walk through life's journey with a woman of valor and worth. I know that feeling. Your first picture here is a sharply focused documentary of life in that place and may others. It's especially well thought out in sacrificing colors and presenting, (what must have been perfectly interesting in the original color, to black and white. This means that the success or failure of the picture now depends on the forms and meaning, freed from immediate eye candy given by colors. You have succeeded in giving us an interesting scene that we can return to and enjoy again and again.
This could be in Barcelona, sitting on the side of the public square near the memorial to the hero of the war to protect Catalonia from Franco, it could be in a dusty street in Havana. Excpetional.
I'd consider a crop at the level of the seam in the jeans on the left so the legs do not distract.
