Greetings from Central Finland! Being new to digital photography I'm constantly looking for ideas and tips on how to improve my currently very limited skills. I got my first SLR (Olympus OM-40) already in 1987 and took a huge amount of slides and b/w before the year 2000. What happened then? The usual, I guess. I grew up, got married, got kids, ran out of money and time.... the common lament. Anyway, as a New Year's resolution I promised myself to pick up this great hobby again and bought a Canon Eos D50. I'll be posting some pics here shortly, looking forward to sharing some ideas with you people!

Hi Jarmo,

Welcome at OPF. I look forward to seeing your pics. What kind of subject do you like to shoot most?

Cheers,
Bart

Thanks Bart! When I bought my Canon, I promised myself not to take too many pictures of my kids. Now, browsing through six months of photography, I discover that most of them are family snapshots. Don't worry, I'm not going to bore you with those. Other subjects that I'm interested in include nature and landscapes, although I try not to limit myself too much in a certain subject.

The film camera, do you still have it? The little Olympus is a stellar machine! I'd love to see some of that work too. A $60 scanner would work fine with the prints. Resolution only needs to be 600 DPI to get a nice scan.

As a matter of fact I still do have both the OM-40, and OM-30 that I bought in Germany in 1992 to replace it. Lovely cameras, so light-weight, yet precise. Too bad both of them died an early death caused by weak shutters...
