A convergence of eras at the edge of the Caribbean

The sweeping bronze arcs of the Portal Maya—cast to honor the infinite cycle of the Mayan calendar—act as a deliberate frame for a living ritual. Suspended in the negative space, the Voladores de Papantla spin earthward. Four flyers, fifty-two total revolutions, an ancient Mesoamerican prayer for rain and fertility caught between heavy metal and the open sky. Tradition and modernity intersecting in a single, monumental frame.

I’ve taken pics of this event before, but came across a really cool angle with my long lens. I had to stand over top of a sing selling tours to get the exact angle. There was only a sliver of the bronze arc where the men on top of the pole showed.

Here are the front and side view of the arc. Not exactly something that would be viewed as a frame for the tall pole to the side of it.
