I guess the 3D nature is due to use of tripod (for minimal shake and better alignment) and the HDR workflow.
The above images were shot with D700, 7 exposures auto bracketed - of which i generally use 3 for merging (0, +/- 3EV). Imported into LR 2.5 and merged via Photomatix. HDR was merged for natural look. Then exported into Photoshop CS3 - and converted into B&W using Nik Silver Efex, Sharpened via Nik Sharpener (creative and display sharpening). Re-imported into LR with Zero'd preset, and exported as JPEG.
Summary: I have found that HDR B&W are really stunning, and have more impact than their color versions.
