A long-and-curly-horn steer

Doug Kerr

Well-known member
The Red Hat Society is a social order for women over 50 (although they have a class of membership for those younger). Its main mission is for the members just to have fun. Chapters typically meet to dine out and go to the theater, museums, and so forth.

Carla has been in the organization for a number of years. She belonged to a chapter in Dallas, then founded a new chapter there and served as its Queen Mum until we moved to Weatherford. Here, she is a member of the local chapter, the Wild West Women of Weatherford.

She now has an additional portfolio, as a Regional Ambassador for the organization, appointed by the staff at the National Hatquarters. She helps to stimulate and guide the formation of new chapters, helps the Queens of the various chapters to solve problems they may have, and subtly makes sure that the very few organizational rules are being duly followed.

Last weekend, there was a synchronized nationwide event, the Red Hat Hoot. The local manifestation was in Fort Worth, and Carla was of course there. It was held in the famous Fort Worth Stockyards District.

A daily event there is a cattle drive, this year including a woman drover (a first). Here is one of the more handsome of the four-legged participants:

Doug,

I must admit, the big horned critters won't outshine Carla! She's always larger than life and the star!

Doug,

These are magnificent beasts! Do they taste different than other steers? Not good to have them walk to far or the fat, which makes the meat juicy, gets used up. Nor sure how texas feeds it's cattle, free range or in special feed lots?

Now I do hope you weren't just taking pics in town. Do you have more showing the animals or the range?

Asher
