Another Beary Shot!

We spent several days with this bear as he frequented an area where berries were plentiful last fall.
Really enjoy watching them eat berries.

Scientists have been waking up bears to examine their poop! It turns out that bacterial flora help them out on fat in the summer while different gut flora are involved in hibernation!

Given to germ free mice, summer bacterial flora from the Bears allow nice to store extra fat but they do not become diabetic! So we are just beginning to learn the importance of the biome in our health!

Now they can sleep the rest of the winter, I have no interest in going after black bear poop, now or when they wake up!

Jaime,
I just revisited this shot and I still like a lot.
The bear looks very peaceful and happy (even with a bit of a goofy look around the lips).
I also like the deft touch of the paw gripping the branch.
A lovely wild portrait (the best kind).

Thanks Andy -

They are actually very careful eating the berries from the hawthorn bushes. As you can see in the photo, there are huge thorns! Here is another one that shows how gentle they are!

So is the tongue prehensile!

Or do they use the lips or teeth?

So, the bear comes across a rabbit in the forest.
"Does your poo stick to your fur? " the bear asks.
"No," replies the rabbit.
On noting the response, the bear picked up the rabbit and wiped his own arse with it.
