Springtime can be prime time for access to wild outdoor areas that can otherwise be difficult to reach. Last year's forest floor growth has been beaten down by the winter weather, poisonous plants haven't yet emerged, and biting insects are not yet out in serious numbers.
While wandering in a deep ravine recently the appearance of a very large old tree caught my attention. It shed its bark years ago, I think, and the elements have burnished its surface. The trunk is standing tall with some of its larger branches still intact.
Nude Tree Trunk
There were no beer cans, cigarette butts, or graffiti, so the area was about as pristine as it could possibly be.
