Best Methods for High-Quality Photo Scanning at Home?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to digitize a bunch of old family photos and want to make sure I do it right.

I have a flatbed scanner, but I'm unsure about the best settings and techniques to preserve the details and colors.

Should I scan at 600 DPI or higher? Is it worth using any software for color correction or restoration?

Also curious if anyone has experience with photo scanning apps—are they good enough for archival purposes?

I'd appreciate any tips, recommended tools, or workflows you’ve found helpful.

Vuescan is his brilliant invention many decades ago!

“VueScan supports both flatbed and automatic document feeder (ADF) scanners, helping you digitize your photo collection quickly and efficiently.”
