Bird Bath Visitors

Here are a couple of pictures of visitors to my birdbaths. I was trying out a remote control for the shutter release. The lens is a 200mm F4 and is about 4M from the bird bath. I am standing about 45M away keeping an eye on the bird bath.

While checking the focus and DOF before some "serious" photography this bird flew in for a drink - I was only 3.5M from the noisy miner. I like the way he was looking at his reflection:-

Jeremy,

Glad to see more of your Aussie birds! Why the tape measure? Is that to check your focus or to measure the bird? What is that last one?

Hello Asher,

Just back in the land of the living!!

The tape measure? I was using it as a focusing aid. The lens is so close to the birdbath that the sharpness changes depending on where the bird sits so I was trying to get the best compromise. I eventually raised the camera elevation and set the focus point in the centre then removed the tape measure. While I was checking focus conditions this Noisy Miner bird flew up and sat on the rim of the bird bath. The lens was only 10 feet (3.4M) away and I would like a 400mm dof as the bird bath is 400mm in diameter.

I was trying out a long range wireless cable release. I had to buy a new ride-on lawn mower so that was the end of me buying my 400mm lens so I settled for a long range wireless cable release end put the camera closer to the target!!
