Blinding of Americans to the darkest chapters in American History: banning photos they dispose cruelty to slaves!

Trump is removing photographic evidence of cruelty to slaves from public institutions he can control, such as national parks and museums.

What do you think? Should the American public be shielded from their own dark chapters so there is justified ignorance of wrongs to blacks that justify correction and more courtesy and consideration!

"Dark, shackled knights of labor, clinging still Amidst a universal wreck of faith To cheerfulness, and foreigners to hate. These know ye not, these have ye not received, But these shall speak to you Beatitudes. Around them surge the tides of all your strife, Above them rise the august monuments Of all your outward splendor, but they stand Unenvious in thought, and bide their time". LESLIE P. HILL

First a common quote,
Those that fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it.

SO no we should not be shielded from our past, in fact up to a point it should be highlighted to make sure we remember the bad so we don't ever do it again.

I allow that perhaps shielding Young children (age 12 and under) might be a good idea, but by high school you should start learning the actual history, good and bad, especially the bad. With an understanding the object is to prevent it from happening again in the future.

I see far too many people in power that have no historical perspective these days and it is very disappointing as they start repeating the same mistakes.

Tim,

I would agree with you on condition it was compulsory to teach this history and show the evidence in American school after your chosen “age 12”!

However, little kids need to know about respect for humanity. We have traditionally put a lot of effort into teaching kindergarten age children horrific nursery rhymes so they understand and are prepared for tragedy and to recognize the risks of being badly hurt:

Three blind mice, Jack & Jill, Humpty Dumpty, The girl trapped by the witch in the woods.

But waiting until kids are 12 and their characters are stable would be wise too!
