Taken in 1989 with Pentax LX and Ektachrome. Full frame, not cropped or post processed, orginal scan from tranny. Why Blue Hawaii? She was feeling a little sad that moment in spite of here colourful t-shirt

Nigel Allan: Elisabet - Blue Hawaii, May 1989

Seeing the juxtaposition of the palm tree in the background with her motif on her t-shirt, I am looking at my old photos in a new light and feel I was actually a better photographer back in the 1980s than I am now...interesting feeling. I am loving scanning my old negs and slides and bringing them back to life

Nigel Allan: Elisabet - Blue Hawaii, May 1989

Hi Nigel,

No excuses, it was I who commented but then was called for something else, leaving the post hanging in preview. Am I the only person so distractible?

I was looking at the picture and the film colors, pink with a touch of blue and yellow. The blue is picked up from the sky and gives us the waves too while the yellow over the black lettering is repeated inverted as the black encases the yellow of her sunglasses. In a way, the yellow on her head, is a volcanic eruption. These musings likely make sense to no one else. To me she is sympathetique, not trying to pose as a beauty, just being and that's a comfortable part of life to find one self. I'd love to see pictures before and after this one to know more of her nature. Of course I remember the pre-marriage pictures. They were delightful and likely hard to improve upon.

Thank you , Asher. It just occurred to me when I looked at this slide that IMHO this is an unexpected image. One associates Hawaii with joy, fun, happiness and so on and it is a wonderful place, one of my favourites on Earth.

Furthermore, the clothes say bright and cheerful too...but the mood is less so. Sympathetique is a nice description as she wasn't out and out sad or melancholic...more reflective I guess

Also I quite liked giving it this title - The play on words with 'blue' Hawaii when the dominant colour you see when you open the page is not blue but pink :)

(there is method in my madness)

looking back on my old slides and negs, she was definitely my muse back then and I will be posting some more images I took arond that time when photography was fun and I hadn't become bogged down with the cares of life
