Bounced light - trying to get it right

I have been working on bouncing my flash without the use of my gary fong diffuser because it sucks up my batteries and sometimes it diffuses too much even with the cap off. So here are some pictures from this morning of my kids just playing around.

ISO for all is 200 and used my 50 mm 1.8 lens

1. This was taken of my Middle Son in-front of my new drapes - I think I will have to get some of these for clients to be in front of...lol

2. My daughter loves the new easel that they got for christmas - it's become her new hiding spot. (we just took the tree down please ignore the needles on the carpet)

4. And last my try at getting a nice group picture of the kids - but like many I really didn't get the cooperation I wanted, but I still love it because it's who they are.

Hi Arya,

Lighting looks quite natural and soft, although a bit frontal (no. 4 looks better in that respect). I like light to come somewhat from one side (it helps to create atmosphere and it gives surfaces structure), but that is not always possible for all subjects and situations. You'd also need a bright/neutral colored surface a bit to one side for that. You could try and swivel the flash up and a bit to one side, and see if you like that, and if the flash has enough power for proper exposure.

Which of Fong's diffusers are you using.

Thank you Jeff, I have the clear one with the white cap - but these were taken without the gf on the flash - just trying to learn how to bounce the "bare" flash off walls to give me what I want without using up so much battery life.
