My World: Bruneau Dunes ID

We stopped at this little state park in central ID on the way back from a climbing trip to City of Rocks. While the rest of the gang slept I got up early to catch the last stars and watch the sunrise/moonset from up on the dunes. I'm still cleaning sand out of my gear (it was quite windy as dawn broke) but it was worth it. I'm happy with the pictures, but equally important was having the dunes to myself, watching the light change over a course of hours, and getting in a nice little pre-breakfast hike - it all added up to a wonderful morning that centered me for days afterward.

Very nice images, Jim. In the initial image those flat undulating dunes are a nice cradle for that wonderful starfield and sky, nice one.
As for the rest, I would imagine that you cannot just go traipsing about seeking an angle and messing up those dunes with footprints for fear of ruining a shot later on. Having said that, are they footprints in the second image?

Lovely series Jim. Great moods and pleased to hear it was a moving experience.
I am a little confused by the first one however, looks like the light of the approaching sun lighting the clouds from beneath looking east yet the moon should be setting in the west.
Was it a double exposure or am I just confused?

Jim,

These are fascinating!

So great that you were able to stay the night and watch the stars!

I have been in such sand dunes in Pismo Beach, California, but feared getting lost after dark!!
