I couldnt believe it. Having Presidents day off, my 12 year old son and I were driving around west texas. I work in I.T. and had a lot of computers in need of my services. All of a sudden we saw them....right there....in the middle of nowhere.

We stopped, took 2 pictures and I, for reasons unknown, decided to start talking to them. They were about 100 yards or so away and I "asked them to come here". I was surprised when they did. They walked right up to us!

And, without further ado, here they are.
**These were proudly taken with my new Canon T1i and my 70-300 IS lens**

Thanks for lookin!

Cute pics.
Actually, I'm desperately trying to come up with a George Bush joke...maybe something along the line of "Dick Cheney told him they were better than horses..." or some such nonsense.
Anyone want to help me out here?

I understand the urge to make a joke, but Mike is right. In fact, Wayne and I are politically very different. I like him anyway! (Sorry, couldn't resist a little joke of my own.) By the way, John, if you like political humor, I can send you the link to my favorite political satirist. She's wonderful!

These pics are nice and sharp, Wayne. The lighting is a tough issue with wildlife because neither the sun nor the animals seem to listen very well. The third shot especially has a lot of charm.

Wayne,

I'm pretty impressed with your setup. Tell us about the 70-300 lens. Is the zoom push pull and does it work as you hoped. I wonder how good it is compared to the 100-400 L lens?

Asher,

I took your advice and looked at my lenses when I was selling my camera and decided to sell them all, one was was because I felt the need for image stabilization and the other is what you pointed out, that they overlapped each other.

I now have two lenses. The kit 18-55 IS and the one I took these pictures with a EF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 IS USM. I am going to save up for the L but for now I am extremely pleased with my new gear. Seeing many other photos on OPF, I doubt my new lens stands up well against the 100-400 L, but as I found with my old camera it's very easy to sell the old to bring in the new. ; )

I thank everyone for looking. Rachel, your right about the light. I am refusing to go back to auto or semi auto with my camera (I have been full manual since my photo class started in Jan.). That combined with the excitement of the camels coming right to us, and my son and I laughing so hard, I didnt due well with the exposure. Still in the end, these and the rest I have posted on OPF are better then anything I have done.

I read the "stickies" in the SPORTS section of OPF and am currently mentally preparing for my sons baseball season. OPF rocks and I again thank EVERYONE for their comments......and thats no joke. ; )
