Hello Will

I like this a lot! such a striking and powerful image, yet sad and solitary, the warmth of the background colours somhow adds hope to this stark image.....

What camera & lens were you using?

Hi Janet, Thank you for your kind words.

It was the Canon EOS 1DsMKII with the 24-105mm f4 L.

This was one of those shots that I had envisioned before setting out to take it.

It is not cropped as well.

Hi Will,

Very interesting pictures, thanks for sharing. I immediately thought about the book "Photoshop Lab Color: The Canyon Conundrum: And Other Adventures in The Most Powerful Colorspace" by Dan Margulis, one of my personal favorites :).

So I could not resist having a go at your pictures using the LAB space to see if it'd improve the colors or not. I am by no means an expert on LAB so my results will be definitely sub par, but it makes an interesting example. Don't you think?

Processed in PS, converted to LAB, adjusted curves on L/a/b layers, did some LCE (USM with a large diameter) and reconverted back to sRGB. Did not bother masking for gradations or local changes or any other fancy stuff. Just the LAB 101 stuff.
