I always seem to have trouble with color and white balance.....practice makes perfect.... for now I'll take b&w.

Hi Jake,

I like the black and white, but in part that's because the colour balance looks way off inthe colour on to me.

Here's a quick update - auto colour in photoshop, add a little red and take out a tiny smidge of blue with a colour balance layer, increase saturation a bit then lighten background a bit using magic wand and a masked curves layer. Nothing fancy, 'cause I can't do that.

Edited to add, still not happy - the cheeks are too bright and the face needs a bit more weight. Here's another slight update using the highlights part of shadows/highlights tool (only 5%) and a curves layer to hold the highlights and add a bit of mid tone contrast. Still not happy with the background though.

wow I can't wait to build my desktop and get some PP software. Those edits look great although his skintone is a bit closer to the original. He is mixed caucsian and laotion. Somewhere in between.

I did just a slight edit, Brightness -50, Contrast +10, removed color cast set on the white shirt.

I think that its a great photo - but definately pops more in black and white. The colours to me don't enhance the picture more than the b&w image. Which is why I'd choose black and white!
