My World: Deerah..

A part of my city. Actually the word has a much greater meaning depending on how it is used.
Here I am using it to signify a part of my city which is commonly called ' Deerah'.

This wall roughly marked the outer limits of the city in the not very distant past. Now it is a heritage construction.

Around it are the administrative offices of the city. Built at very high costs and designed in the way of the old. It is a vast area. But when one says that one is going to Deerah, one generally implies the older part of the city. There one can get lost in the traditional shops..the ' Souk '.

A little further down rise the modern tower blocks and one is in an entirely different age and place.
But this part of the city is preserved and maintained in as much authentic detail as possible.

One can bargain for traditional items. Many hours can be spent in this part of the city just looking at traditional crafts and items that are very much in use to this day.

Coffee and tea. Want authentic utensils..this is one of the places to get them.
Making true Arabic coffee involves the knowledge passed down from generations. And it takes time.

The aroma..I need coffee now!!

Do stop by our Museum. A wonderful display of our Heritage.

And an entire section devoted to products of more modern times...

Then and Now, it is called.

The Museum is state of the art..as they say. The design, the lighting, the multi-media displays..all housed in traditional surroundings.

Some interesting looking elements in a few of the images. I really like the geometry of the 4 rent image and the old structure. Enjoyable set !

Fahim,

Where did you find this picture? Can you take some of your own? You'd have the challenge of reproducing this magnificent image and then leaving it behind with your own ideas.

Asher, my good friend, should I thank you for considering this a ' magnificent image ' or should I feel discouraged that you think I am incapable of having shot this one.

Ayesha and I were in Deerah to buy floor seatings. While she shopped, I took some snaps.

Take care and best wishes.

Be encouraged! I thought it was taken long ago with MF! I still would love to see more of this venerable place.
