End of Autumn

It's unlikely I'll get any more Autumn colour shots now, so here are a few more of my Autumn shots, let me know what you think please.....

Hi Janet, I specially like the first and the last one, I can almost feel a smooth fresh breeze and hear the water running. There's something in the third one (certain "glow") that separates it from the others, a beautiful one too anyway.

Great series. It expresses the thought beautifully. The only thing I would change is the size.

This drove me to your site where I spent some pleasant moments exploring...bookmarked for further study.

Thanks for sharing.

Janet,

I do like the entire series. How could we not be enchanted with a sienna covered path though tree or the last leaves stubbornly holding on to their green color and place on the tree?

Janet Smith: The Last Leaves of Autumn 4

It's this 4th picture, however, that brings together all the ideas, with a winding path like formation of the leaves, taken from above, almost a God-shot, showing the array of autumn colors and some rare hold-out leaves struggling to look green despite being abandoned!

I'd consider spending considerable effort on individual leaves, selecting some for sharpening and clarity.

Hello Ruben

We don't normally have a stream in our garden, but this one (only very small) arrived after very heavy rain, I was unsure about the last shot too, but it's growing on me.... Thank you for your comments.

Hi Asher

Thank you for your comments, this last shot was my least favourite out of these four, I often find that my feelings about a shot are swayed by how I felt at the time..... this stream was running down the side of my house, where there shouldn't be a stream! I suppose my feelings towards it were quite negative, although now I'm beginning to see the photograph in a different light, the variety and colours of the leaves which had become piled up are interesting in there own way, I think I'll rework the shot as you suggest. Thank you for the idea.

Janet, don't sell the last one short. The way I see it, you loaded the bases with the first three and brought them all home with the last one.

Hi Janet, for me the colors of autumn are exotic and your series mesmerising. #3 is my favorite. What
colors shall one find across the bend? The shade provides for me feeling of clear autumn cold..fresh with
a typical smell experienced but indescribable.

Lovely.

When you get through the tangle of branches.......

You emerge to this, and yes the smell is of leaves, wood and a zing in the air from the waterfall...

I like the first because it is so totally unexpected to make somethign so beautiful out of somethign most of us just pass by and ignore, and I like the last because it sums up your title most accurately as in END of Autumn...the rest is Autumn, the last the truly the end of the road (sorry, river) for these leaves.

Hi Nigel

What a nice thing to say! The leaves in the first shot were just glowing in the sunlight and shouting out to be photographed!

I often shoot into the sun...... loving to include light patterns in the background as part of the composition, I'm looking forward to shooting winter next. Thank you for commenting Nigel.

I for one love love love the third

it is such a gorgeous trail to neverland
I so think the mystery is so involeved in the total of this shot and would love to know what you thought when you saw it

it can take a spirit to forever! I would have loved to take my Arabian horse on a good canter through those leaves- actually in this shot I did!
beautiful

Charlotte-

Janet, a beautiful place/time to be in. Thanks for sharing.

The third image of the tree shrouded path is like another world - strange yet familiar. At the same time I'm being drawn to it, I spot a few things I'd might change to suit my ideal for the image.

First, the blurring caught my eye. I like it, but it also distracted me. I know sometimes my first pass on an image is rough. I wonder if a little more time spent on the blurring using some more detailed techniques might get the effect you want without drawing attention to itself?

Second, I wanted the foreground to have more contrast, more fill and more saturation. So many leaves, I want to see them all!

Please don't take this the wrong way, I wish the image was mine - then I could do exactly what I wanted to with it :)

Hi Ed

I was/am very uncertain about this one, you've highlighted exactly the concerns that I have, this version was a quick attempt, it's one of those shots that could be worked in so many ways isn't it, when I have more time I'll come back to it and have another go. Thank you for your comments, of course I don't mind, I always appreciate opinions/pointers/advice....

Hi Charlotte

Thank you for your comments, I'm really glad you like it, but I do think it needs more work, but your kind comments have encouraged me to see its potential, I will work on it some more - thank you...
