For Cem...a prelude to ice fishing

John Angulat

pro member
Sitting all alone on a pond last winter, I had the peculiar opportunity to be interviewed by a local reporter.
I have to give the guy points for effort.
I watched him slip and slide across that frozen lake (we wear cleats on our boots), determined to make his way to me.
Teeth chattering and severely under-dressed, he managed to stick around long enough to write a few lines.
btw - I'm the 2nd photo.

Hi John,

You've just made my day (or night as it is the case over here). :)))

Quote from the article:
It's 22 degrees outside and with the wind it's more like 10. But to John Angulat, who is sitting on a bucket in the middle of Wampus Pond while ice fishing, it couldn't be a better day. "It's all about being outside," said Angulat. "When I'm out here by myself I can clear my head. It's very Zen for me."

...

...Back on Wampus Pond, Angulat is bundled up for the cold. With a full one-piece suit and an extra thick-wool hat, he looks like he could be coming out of the Alaskan wilderness, rather than sitting on a pond in northern Westchester. But he says warm clothes are key to a good day of fishing.

"If you're not over-dressed then you're not prepared," said Angulat, adding that dressing in layers is the best way to stay warm. "You can always take layers off but you can't put on what you don't have."

Angulat's fishing equipment is pretty light. He uses a miniature fishing rod with a tiny metal lure attached to his line. He said that this set up is meant for jigging, a technique where you drop the tiny lure through the hole in the ice and rhythmically bob the tip of the fishing pole, making the metal lure bounce in the water.
Cheers,
