frustration and maybe results...?

here are a couple of shots i took this morning of my uncooperative 2 year old.. no one else was around but him, so i thought i could snap some while he was just watching tv, im really trying to get the functions on my camera down. and i keep getting more frustrated. i *think* ive got the lighting issue figured out... at least a little more than i did before, but now it is the darn focus that is driving me nuts. maybe im putting too much pressure on myself and being too hard on myself, i dont know. but here are the 2 shots that ive messed with... they are the only 2 out of 85 that seemed to be any good... lol

in this one he was watching dora the explorer on the floor and talkign to the tv. he seemed to look so concentrated. and then he moved... ha! this one is full frame, not cropped at all. i adjusted the levels and contrast and added a sepia filter to the photo... i am shooting in the dark when it comes to ps yet, so really i was just playing around with it and came out with this...

again watchin dora, but i caught the expression i love so much, that look of awe, i did crop this one down, and added a gradient filter? again i was just playing around with photoshop and kind of liked the effect, i wished i could have changed teh color of teh filter though, i couldnt figure out how. i also adjusted the levels and saturation.

There are lots of good books on Photoshop. For portraits I like Katrina Eisman's on retouching and restoral. I don't think you have used the gradient filter the way it is designed to use, but still a nice picture.

I took the liberty to do a bit of work on #1 picasa ps only and a small little crop-
this is a beautiful shot of your baby- you may want to remember and I know this is a bitch-but when you do close up work like this look very closely- there is sleep in the eye and sometimes nose hair shows up and destroys the look-you can work on this through a study in photoshop
I dont always see these things either-trust me- but I have learned to look and then take them out if I can-although at times I have left some food on the mouth etc for the idea of the expression you are trying to achieve- I hope I am making sense
work and more work-but I can see you will do it- see what really is in your own reality and shoot it* experiment-oh on the crop I did accidentally leave a bit of the clothing on the lower right hand- it should have been gone but you get what I am trying to show you- IMHO

thank you charlotte, i hadnt even paid any attention to the sleep in the eye, or anything else like that, and how silly, i know that those little details can make it or break it!!! i also like the crop better as well.

thanks again,
kasandra
