FUN: Red Squirrel

I've been trying to catch this guy for awhile now but he's been too quick for me. I finally caught him because he had his mouth full! Canon 1D Mk II N, Sigma 100-300 f/4.

Hi Steve,

Cute little critter -- and they sure are fast, aren't they? Just curious: did you shoot this in RAW or JPEG and did you enlarge a crop?

Thanks Jean. Yep to both. It is not perfect by any means but I thought it was a fun shot. The crop is nearly 1:1 and I did sharpen it some. It looks like the 1D focused more on the tree than the squirrel. I need a lot more practice shooting with it.

Fun shot there Steve! Looks like the little fellow has bitten off more than he can chew!

In the UK our population of native Red Squirrels has been in trouble the last few years, due to a virus sweeping through the already small population. Apparently there are now signs of recovery, so hopefully numbers will start to increase again.

Agree with the comments about them being fast! Have struggled myself in the past.

Cheers,

Steve,

It IS a fun shot! The reason I asked about RAW/JPEG and large crop was because of the halo effect which I have also seen in my JPEGs (but not yet my RAW images) when enlarged.
