This is far better for the human brain than TV, Fahim, and look how it gets the folk together....and of course, that's your whole point! I' impressed at the handsome game pieces but the easily replaced homemade board. Do you happen to know what type of game it is?
These bonds are what live should be about! I see the chess games in the park nearby with tables set up by old men, mostly weathered Iranian transplants who have brought themselves peace of mind, sanity and respite among friends too!

Glad you show this in B&W as it's the game and the bicycles and baskets that makes this group of men so sympathetic and genuinely demanding of our adoration and respect for our sameness that is far more important than superficial differences of customs, diet and skin tone!

Its not hard to find a game of some sort being played of the streets in Asian countries. Like, you, Fahim, I find the games quite fascinating and worthy of a shot or two. The men, especially, take the game serious; as serious as the social gathering itself. There is always a couple of well healed players where others will look on to with a huge amount of respect, watching every move as it it will be the final stroke. Strategic games rank high. I've seen this and similar board games draw a crowd. Even a simple card game can turn into a festivity. Money never seems evident yet the crowd will often exchange money after a game. I've not seen women play in the same way. They usually reserve their games to indoors or sitting on a veranda out of sight.
All in all, it seems to be a way of life to be enjoyed by spectators as well as participants. It might also be a way of determining social ranking. A great deal of respect is placed on those who win.
