Hagimit Falls, Samal Island: An Intimate Afternoon

Now the Idea is to explore! Its my 2nd time here in Davao and as soon as I finished my case, I'm off to Samal Island. My destination is a good 30 minute barge ride from the pier, another 30-40 minute bus drive to Penaplata and upon reaching the terminal it's another 20 minute motorcycle (habal-habal) ride into the heart of Samal. The travel going there is all worth it as I just witnessed another nature's wonder! With that in mind let me present to you an Intimate Afternoon at Hagimit Falls, Samal Island Davao.:)

This must be my favorite part of Hagimit! The water is so cool and the rocks here are really unique! Hence, giving this awesome white water formation! It just tops my list over Kawasan, Mantayupan, Katibawasan, and the other Falls I've been to!:)

entrance is only 20php. You need to go down 96 steps to see the 1st level/ body of water, from there a series of path walks going to the different areas of Hagimit.

I like these - thanks for sharing. The first two look like images from a tourist brochure with the rich saturation and lack of people. A couple of questions:

- Did you place the leaves on the forground rock in the first image?

- Please can you explain the process information that you present above the image.

Thanks

Mike

Edited to to say that I like the steps particularly.

Hi Mike,

thanks for taking time to give your comments. For the 1st picture, originally there's only one leaf on that spot, it looks boring because of the large mid and background so i decided to stack 2 more leaves on each other.

for the process information above the images, explain in what sense? the logic behind each or the abbreviations of RT (remote trigger), TP (tripod)?

some questions for you also Mike:
- tourist brochure and rich saturation? is that a good point? meaning over saturated?
- lack of people, I'm always looking at pictures at flickr account/pool and when you say landscape i rarely see people in their shots, still it looks nice.
- "edited to say that i like the steps particularly" - what do you mean edited to say?

I'll be attaching the original image of the 1st image without the texts. All the best!

much respect,
karlo

Very nice :)

Good idea to put the leaves on the rock. Never hesitate to add things if it makes the photograph stronger. Nature can only do so much. Plus, nature isn't thinking in terms of "good photographs!" Quite often we have to help the composition so that it looks good as a photograph.

Personally I would have added more leaves, but that's a personal taste issue.

My favorites are the first 2 photographs above in this thread. I don't like the B&W one as much.

hi Karlo,

Nature is only "thinking" in terms of "nature" which is geological, botanical, zoological and other forces at work.

Nature doesn't see itself as "pretty" or "not pretty". Nature just is.

Aesthetics is a human construction. Nature never intended us to hang photographs of it on our walls! We therefore have to organize the chaos of nature into a visual reality that expresses our emotions.

We have to express ourselves by bringing part of us into the final print, or final image.

for this shot, i really like how the roots creep out on top of the soil.. gives more drama with the white water at the midground. The falls is located in the Samal District, about 2km outside of Penaplata, which would be southeast from our land on Limao.
