Hannah 100 Cycle Ride

A few weeks ago I took part in the Hannah 100 cycle ride (in aid of a school for children with special needs in Ipswich) and have just uploaded a few pictures to Flickr. The slideshow can be found here. All pictures Ricoh GX100, but the slideshow enlarges them on my screen sa they're only 750 pixels in the long direction.

Mike,

At first, from the title, I though this was Hannah, your daughter, aged 10 and you had made a typo on the number. The wide angle view was smart, I thought, to protect her identity, LOL.

Well the actual content was a great surprise to me! I love these community responses to community needs. This is one of the best character and mental health building activities for all the participants. One can feel good about oneself for the exercise, the comradeship and the cause! A wonderful photo-essay.

I do like the equalizing character of presenting the story in B&W so the mind is not distracted by the attention-getting bright colors of clothes and helmets.

The bicycles thrown aside seem to say "I'm totally bushed and need a drink!" but likely this was at the beginning. Looks like a large organizational undertaking. How many participants. I guess that's 100 km? How long does that take?

Asher

I discovered this link! So which course did you take and how long does it take to complete. I could do a few miles a day, I guess!

This has a wonderful "old-timey" look to it, like a scene from All Creatures Great and Small on the telly.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Mike, respect to you for doing this to help those children out. It's nice to see you having documented the ride and what took place.

Asher asked me to post this so he could see it alone.

The slideshow has pictures before and after, but I didn't get any of the 'Beer on Midsummer Common' shots, due to the glass in my hand...

Mike,

Thanks for posting this interesting picture of two bikes on the ground like exhausted riders. I was struck by the drama their positions suggested. As shown in the photo-documentary it's full bleed and although that works in that context, I hoped t would become more particular and individual displayed as in a gallery.

I do like the photograph as presented here, with enough white space all around, isolating it and thereby rendering a sense of importance to the pair.

I wonder how others feel about this as it immediately drew me in to this small portion of the meadow and I was engaged in it's story.

Hi Mike,
I like Doug's take on the image, it does have an "old-timey" feel to it.
Nicely done, and thanks for taking the time to help others by participating.

Hi Mike,

Well done for finishing the ride. The last time I rode a bike was my daughter's racer and I couldn't walk straight for two weeks. My word, those saddles are uncomfortable..............

Regards,

Stuart

Hi Mike,

I like the sensation of openness and freedom, emphasized by the simplicity of the composition and the abstraction of BW.
