Hello from Freising / Germany

Hello everyone,

I have been working as a freelance photographer and photographic designer in Munich since 1990 mainly within stillife, food and advertising photography. I used to take stillife pictures with my sinar p 4x5in. and 13x18cm large format camera, but in 2003 I gave up my studio, sold my sinar equipment and studio flash equipment. I decided to do more and more IT-services for industrial clients and soon I had to realize that I was completely out of photography business. So I did not make the transition to digital MF or LF up to now. In the past two years I decided to reinvest in photography and printing gear and to work on different sujets than I did before. I can not imagine to have a studio again. I begun qtvr and interieur/architecture photography, and also fine art printing.

I came across this forum as I was looking for information about MF digital backs. I have been really delighted about the good style of the contributors. The information provided in this forum helped me a lot to choose the right MF equipment.

Hi Karsten,

Qhat great place could you have come from for photographic design than Munich! You have some of the finest museums and design schools. It's so great to have another MF camera photographer. We treasure each and everyone and especially to have another shooter using the Schneider Mount. All those folk who kept their Rollei lenses should be happy now. I hope you will give us a regular diary experience of your new Sinar Camera. Tell us what you finally chose and if it has arrived.

As far as VR Panos are concerned, have you purchased a dedicated system with a special Pano head. It seems that the Gigapan head with a simple digicam like the Canon G9 or G10 can do a very good job.

So I'd love to know how you take and build these and then what form you deliver them to your clients.

I guess Munich is covered with snow right now. Keep warm!

Again, welcome,

Asher

I started 2001 with a Canon G2 to shoot QTVR interieur hotel rooms and at this time I used a Manfrotto pano head. Then in 2003 I tried the Canon EOS 10 D with 17-40mm f4 L lens and the Manfrotto single row pano head, but I did not like the manfrotto head (terrible to set up) and soon changed to Panasonic DMC-LC1 and a RRS pano head.

More about my experience with the RRS head in the "Panorama Photography" section...

Bonjour Karsten
Glad to welcome onboard another Sinar photographer!
As you wrote that you came across OPF searching for infos on the MF system, I tent to guess that you've already read my diary here in the MF section…
I found the Sinar System wonderfull, once I found the right worflow that suited me and my needs!

I'm so happy that you'll feed a diary here, then we'll have one more view of that system and surely we'll be able to share some hints or tips!

I've seen that you have already post some panos and did tease us about the RSS ballhead…
Bart van der Wolf (a very nice Dutch fellow and great photog) did drive my attention to the RSS system…
I spend so much money and lost so many time with other systems without satisfaction, but once I tried the RRS, it stayed "glued" on my tripod!
Here is a video of the use of the Sinar and RRS head shooting a pano of an boat interior, stitched with Autopano: http://claris.fr/SINAR/Making_of/video.html (scroll down to the 2nd video player) coming together with the OPF Diary's page for this shoot session: http://www.openphotographyforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5306

But this is old stories!, now we wait for yours!

Hi Karsten,

I've been an avid pano shooter when the occasion called for that (it's not been a goal, but rather a means to get the shot, for me. My earlier digital series (with a Canon G3) were taken in Berlin, although I've been shooting panos before that (on film and with scanning).

The RRS gear has been a major improvement, as I didn't like the inaccurate alignment of my earlier Manfrotto setup. It was a major investment, but I've not regretted it since switching to that platform.
