Hello from Yankton South Dakota

Hello, my name is Kasandra, and ive been reading through the threads here for long enough that my eyes are burning! As ive read thru, ive thought to myself that i really dont belong in this forum.... but maybe thats because i DO belong here. I only know a little, i do not pretend to know a lot, but it seems that others here know much more than I, so maybe this is exactly where i need to be to increase my education when it comes to photography...

I am 26 years old, and a stay at home mom of 3 boys, ages 7, 3, and 2. my 3 year old has autism, and i also have another baby boy on the way in jaunuary. Life is very busy for me. I got my first digital camera about 4 years ago. just to take shots of the kids with. I never dreamed i would fall in love with a piece of equipment before!!! my first camera was a nikon, and unfortuantely it was just a point and shoot, and it was stolen out of my purse... ive never cried like that before in my life... then my husband got me a kodak z612, still a point and shoot, but he knew how much i was falling in love with photography and wanted to give me something i could expand my horizens with... that did it. i still use the kodak today, trying to learn about f-stops, apeture, iso, etc. as my camera has the auto mode, but also a manual mode, and a couple other modes im not sure what they do...

what little i do know i have taught myself. through trial and error, and lots of time on the internet reading up on how to take great pictures...

my favorite thing to photograph are people... portraits. i also love macro shots as well.

im feeling very nervous about posting any of my images here, fearful that someone is going to tell me they are udder crap...

i have taken a step, and gotten a tax licence, so that maybe i can make a bit of money off of what i do. i really aspire to own my own photography studio some day. but right now we just cannot afford to put out the money to get started the "right" way, so im practicing my butt off and trying to learn as much as i possibly can in hopes i will get a phone call for a photo shoot. i dont pretend to be great, my prices reflect that, and maybe my dream can come true... i really dont know.

well im not too sure what to say after all i have said... im thinking i may go back thru my images and see if there is even one i feel worthy of posting on here. the degree of talent among these forum members is quite intimidating....

thanks for reading,
Kasandra

Kasandra,

Welcome to OPF!

Don't feel intimidated. Just post images and you'll get good feedback. Good luck on your new child!

Photography, like your family, requires a lot of dedication but does work as a home business for family portraits and more. We all have to start somewhere. Just post 1-4 images of the same theme so they can be discussed as a whole. Say why the pic was taken or how you set it up and what you intend for it or what it means to you. We need something like that so we can comment intelligently.

Again welcome!

Asher

Welcome Kasandra. You're in very good company; there's no need to feel intimidated whatsoever.

You might be interested in seeing some of Julie Blackmon's work. Although Julie did have formal training, and professional experience, in photography she became a stay-at-home mom. Several years ago she dived back into photography by using her home-centric life as a core theme for a body of work she titled "Domestic Vacations". She has since won significant acclaim for this work, as you'll see.

Ms. Blackmon is a rather demur but very sharp and extremely talented photographer, perhaps in her 30's today.

Moral of the story: Creative opportunities abound wherever you are.

Welcome, again.

thanks for your replys. i think i will post a couple of shots in the risk it section... after all that is what im doing right?? haha! sometimes my confidence gets the best of me... just something else to work on right?

thanks again!

i was going to post a shot of myself, but something strange happened with my eyes, so it will have to wait till morning.. i am just too tired to try to fix it now!!!
