A splendid picture of a wonderful statue with a provide interpretive milieux. How nice it is to have the sculptor present to us the tools and instruments by which the geographer confirmed positions and progressively charted his location.

To have done this merely walking everywhere is an arduous feat, but must have had a great effect on his mind as he would have myriads of personal interactions with different denizens in each area he visited.

I wonder whether he wrote a book or otherwise leverage his deep knowledge of Japan?
