Hot Door

I found this doorway in the French Quarter last week. It's on the block with the Holiday Inn. It's a grocery. They've blocked this door with shelves, and bottles of hot sauce have fallen behind. When I saw it I thought it had great potential. The reflection of the balcony in the background gives a hint of location. The grime that covers it is typical of the French Quarter. I kept enough around the door to provide context (i.e., so you can tell it's a door). I turned the contrast way up, and printed it 24 x 36, to hang in my stairwell.

As I was taking the photo I envisioned the large, contrasty print.

There is a ghost of the photographer present.

Oh, I should have mentioned -- It's the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. We were there the day after Christmas. Great city to visit.
