How does 24-105 sealing work?

Today I tested the weather sealing of my new 1D Mark II and 24-105 in a downpour. Looks like no problem at all!

I was just wondering, how does the sealing of the 24-105 work? The lens extends when zooming, so quite some water got in there. I just dried it by zooming in and out some times, now it looks pretty dry. But can't there get any moist into the mechanism itself?

If Canon says this lens is weather sealed I trust them, but I was just curious how this works.

Hi Jan,

It was terrible weather in the Netherlands today, wasn't it? I am surprised you've exposed your equipment to it. I am considering buying the same lens in combination with a 5D later this year, but have to save some more first ;-)).

Regards,

Cem
