How is this?

News article for news purposes only....

Well, in the scheme of things lately, this ought to garner a comment or two. It is my intent to post photos that can be discussed on their photographic merit - not policital commentary.

This photo was of Sen McCain taken today during his visit to a Town Hall meeting in Pueblo, Co. The image in conveys a message of being a powerful speaker, with ties to being an American of great conviction and portrays a message of patriotism. This is not to discuss your personal political views but to discuss the merits of this particular photograph.

More pics! More pics! More pics!

I like the shot of McCain but also found the back ground distracting. The angle on McCain I liked a lot and the lighting as well. My own style, though, is as plain a back as possible so the flag itself is not the issue, it's the pattern.

This is a good exercise in how we bring our own preconceptions to our interpretation of a piece of art, a photograph, or just about anything else.

In contrast to "a message of being a powerful speaker, with ties to being an American of great conviction and portrays a message of patriotism," one might see the symbol of a country whose power is both turning dark and fading, with a man who is in turn a symbol of that fading and darkening power, bearing a somewhat desperate expression, reaching out in supplication or dismay, but nevertheless sinking out of the picture.

Or (given that we westerners read left to right), a country that is moving forward into the future (a bright future or a dark future? Who's to know, but it seems to be moving towards the light...), while a symbol of its past is being left behind.

Or something else entirely. ;-)

Here's one of my favorite "standard" basketball shots. Compare and contrast. How is it similar? How does it differ? What message does it convey? Does it do so effectively? How could it be improved?
