Just Sharing, Illinois River View

Just an image taken last Monday I wanted to share.

This is one of my favorite places to be at dawn during every season of the year. View is toward the east with the late spring morning summer sun just out of the frame to the left. It will get further work (contrast, especially), but felt this initial iteration might have enough mood value to warrant sharing.

Tom,

I love this spot.

Do you have a shot to the left or right to add to it? Or do you feel you need to hone in on just this section of the landscape. Here it all comes together of course, but would the adjacent scene help?

It is beautiful. I would love to be sitting on that bench myself right now. The light is wonderful and so are the long dark shadows that it brings. I can imaging many different looks from this one spot.

Asher and James,

Thanks for looking and your kind comments. The place has many possibilities throughout the seasons, but there is something about that little empty park bench that I cannot resist.

The morning had no wind, and my true motive for visiting the spot was to photograph a recently collapsed portion of a sandstone bluff.

Transportation of bulk goods by river barge is vital to the commerce of the Midwest, but the Illinois River became navigable only after it was dammed around 1932. The dams turned the river into a series of pools, and the resulting high water levels contribute to the erosion of river's banks. Efficient transportation of goods is important, especially these days, but it is equally important to be aware of its easily overlooked costs.

Tom,

This is special. You have also given us clouds reflected in the water! I would have thought of this in a wider format, but with the reflection, your presentation works!

I like white space around such photographs. The reflection and the composition needs to own it's own peaceful real estate.

You might look at how you'd feel about the lower 2" being cropped away as it may really not be needed for the power of the picture.
