Well, the costumes are hand made, the masks are often carved out of wood, the horns added, painted, etc. which makes them sometimes quite expensive when you count the material and working hours.
Usually the costumes are used for several years, maybe modified during the time they are used.
Sure - you have to store them in some way.

It makes sense that Christianity would incorporate this hairy horned figure who essentially wants children to be good or else face nasty consequences.

Without the threat of “Hell”, there’s no need for heavenly forgiveness of “sin”. So reinforcing a concept of a “Devil” is entirely consistent with that theology!

Besides it’s festive and artistic humor in display!

I find it a wonderful celebration.

[But on the reality side, I hope children aren’t led to believe that burning in hell is a real risk today!]
