Well the smaller Juvi finally fledged a few days back. First Mom shows how to brake for landing.....then little Juvi imitates her.......

From Eric's excellent majestic images it's easy to understand how a similar strike pose of the Bald Eagle, another magnificent raptor, became the national symbol of the United States, bearing arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other.

I like the better separation between the head and it's right wing compared to the previous image. Is this by chance or taken differently?

That's honest and fortunate!

Do these birds open their talons wide to be able to spear birds below or do the drop below them and then grab then from blow? I'm wondering because of the curve of the talons which seem perfect for grabbing but not piercing into the prey on rapid descent.

Well they hunt mostly fish. They dive bomb the water and grab the fish with their Talons! I have seen Osprey sit in the water for many seconds feeling around for the fish with his Talons!
