Monitor recommendations

My monitor just died and I am looking for a new one and would love any recommendations of a relatively good one (read that as inexpensive) especially for photo editing purposes on my Windows machine. I would love one of those wonderful and expensive Eizo models or something along those lines but unfortunately that is not in the budget. I am thinking more along the lines of $500 or less so that narrows it down quite a bit. The one that died on me was a cheap 19" Gateway flat panel LCD. It worked perfectly well for what I do but alas it only lasted a year and a half. Can anyone recommend anything that you believe would fit the bill for me?

I was unsure where to post this so if you want you can move it wherever it would be more logical. Thank you.

Hi James
apparently you got what you paid for! (1.5 year…)
I would look into the NEC range (avoiding the spectraview serie, better but more expensive…).

Sometimes (but not every time;-) a bit more expensive means a better investment…

Just my 0.2 cents

Thank you Nicolas. You have made me rethink. I have my eye on an Eizo afterall and the price, along with their 5 year warranty, is starting to make much more sense. I am also happy to report that we once again have electicity in our house. It came back on one hour ago and it is such a relief. Eight days without has really made me appreciate what we have.
