More Yellowstone Wolves.

This wolf is one of the Druid Pack located in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone. It was a 20 degree morning when we happened upon five of the 16 wolf pack. We spent 21 minutes with them that morning. All images taken with a Canon 1D Mark III with a Canon f4 500mm IS lens.

This is one of the Hayden Pack. This was taken very early (tough light) in the morning. It was a fridged -20 morning. We got into the remaining 5 members of the Hayden pack this morning.

Here again are some Druids from the Lamar Valley. A total of four wolves are visible in this picture.

The wolves are really tough subjects to get close to. We've spent considerable time in Yellowstone this winter. We've had many encounters at 100 to 200 yards, but these 50 foot encounters rarely happen. Very rarely...

It is hard to judge the scale of the wolves, but understand they regularly kill elk and bison. They can weight 100 to 150 lbs. People seem to love the black wolves - we sell many more prints of the Black ones!

Hi Jaime

Thanks for posting these too, I've enjoyed seeing them and particularly like the last one out of these three but 50 feet sounds a bit close for comfort! I look forward to seeing some of you Grisley shots.....

Superb Jaime! The are striking!

Here is a orange eye version.... ;)

I was watching a program on a wolfpack on Television tonight when he looked somewhat confused at me and started howling with them...

Wolves...

Hello Jaime, more stunning captures...

I was just wondering whether these are slightly under exposed though, especially number 3 ?

Not ever having been to Yellowstone, I was wondering what sort of circumstances you have to endure in order to capture these images. Does it mean much hiking, and how do you carry your equipment in this weather. I would also imagine that battery life would also be extremely short in these conditions... would you share that with us?

Regards,
Barry

I'm jealous. I've been trying to get close enough all winter and haven't managed it yet. Really good images that show the detail of the face which is one way to distinguish them from the coyote. I'm headed there this weekend so maybe I'll get lucky.
