Crossing into PA, a rural Americana sight.

I did get a pumpkin, though.

Wonderful to be back home. A very long and tiring flight, for me.

Anyway, since granduncle ( me ) was there, the little ones in the family had a day off on Columbus day.
( I do realize that the indigenous Americans take issue with this naming ). They wanted to see The Lady.

Every time I see her, I feel inspired. That's all there is to say as far as I am concerned.
And what about Emma Lazarus? Anyway..the crowds were big..I mean really big that day. The little ones
had to buy gifts and trinkets. Had to eat. It was hot. I mean hot.

The obligatory shot..

BTW, without looking up wiki..what is inscribed on the Statue of Liberty?
Hint below!!

Of course, the next stop was Ellis Island...

Of course, there is nothing inscribed on the Statue of Liberty..except a tablet in her hand which says what?

So rich! A blessing to remind us of the bounty of nature as we say farewell to another season!

Explain the bottom picture?

Asher, to answer your ' command ' to explain the ' bottom picture '...

While I was on Ellis island, for one of many times, I have always noticed people head to the museum and
history section inside the main building. Very few..I mean hardly anyone stops by at the terminus of the railroad station that would bring the ' new immigrants ' for further processing.

There is history and much more in this disused railroad terminus...

Inside the main building I saw people, mainly tourists, and quite a few ' new immigrants ' look at the history of making of America, the Nation.

There is a register there for people to check their ancestors, if they had arrived by boat and so forth.
Previous records were lost during a fire earlier on.

So I combined two images..one of the disused railroad terminus and those curious about the making of America. Reading the history of Ellis Island.

Now for you Mr. Asher..a simple one first..why is it called Ellis Island. What was it called before that?
For the both of us and others that might be interested..a more serious question..

Which of the ' new immigrants ' were proceed at this railroad terminus? Why?

What important ( and discredited research ) was applied to the processing of arrivals at Ellis Island?
Who was/were the proponents of this research? What was it based on?

You see, my dear friend, visiting Ellis Island is much more than just history..much much more, for me at least.

Explain the bottom picture?

Assume that such requests always have "please", "if you happen to know" or else "it's intriguing but do you happen to know just what's going on?" as essential context for any and every request of mine as to the meaning of a picture. That is certainly the intent, and here it should be understood! So please forgive my colloquial language. I do try brevity from time to time!

Asher, to answer your ' command ' to explain the ' bottom picture ........

Fahim,

I have never ever commanded anyone in my life, LOL! Also I would never dream of doing so!

Although I am delighted to read your full answer to my brief request. Much appreciated!

As mentioned earlier, my arrival at JFK was a very pleasant and efficient experience.

What about my departure from JFK?
I had heard stories of long ques at the airport, security checks...removing of ones shoes and putting
ones iPhones,iPads, cameras, keys etc on separate trays..

I experience nothing of that sort. In all maybe 5 friendly minutes in all. 4 of them to tie my shoe laces,
As I had unlaced them to remove them..which was not required. Just walked through. Beautiful.

Thank you.
